 If there’s a musician representing the post-Coltrane evolution and advancement of jazz that is certainly the saxophonist bass-clarinetist composer and arranger David Murray!

Born in Oakland California David got involved in music from a very young age. Since he arrived in NY in 1975 Murray established himself as one of the prominent saxophone players and leaders of jazz. He has released over 200 albums under his own name working with the likes of Max Roach Randy Weston Pharoah Sanders McCoy Tyner Taj Mahal Mal Waldron Amiri Baraka Jerry Garcia Cassandra Wilson Jason Moran Macy Gray Omara Portuando Black Thought or Gregory Porter just to name a few. He was also a founding member of the groundbreaking World Saxophone Quartet which toured and recorded for over 40 years. As well as being a well-known bandleader he is a noteworthy composer and arranger providing memorable melodies and harmonies. His approach to improvisation is instantly recognizable. Even in its.. freest flights he acknowledges the gravity of a tradition he honors more than most combining all the influences he grew out of: gospel jazz blues free/avant-garde jazz rhythm’n blues and in his associations with writers and poetry. Murray’s use of the famous circular breathing technique has enabled him to play astonishingly long phrases with his instruments!

The rejuvenated master saxophonist David Murray returns to his favorite stage of this city with a new quartet which is consisted of some great musicians such as Marta Sanchez on piano Luke Stewart on bass and Russell Carter on drums. From 17th till the 20th of November the unforeseen marvel of a true jazz legend is in full display at the Half Note Jazz Club the stage that shaped live jazz activity of the city.
