The Museum of the Old Cathedral of Serres was founded occasioned by the re-opening of the Byzantine church of Agioi Theodoroi (Old Cathedral of Serres) as a place of pilgrimage. It was then considered appropriate to exhibit the Byzantine sculptures that the monument itself had. The sculptures were exhibited in the northern extension of the church and in the courtyard area. Various sculptures, such as tombstones or decoration that once belonged to the exterior of the temple, were exhibited. Sculptures and inscriptions from various eras coming from the city of Serres and its region were arranged on the walls.
