Navarinou Square

Wallking from Kamara towards Tsimiski Street you will come across the well-known Navarinou Square. In the center of the square is the fountain with the “Whistling boy”, by Nikolaos Pavlopoulos.

Its reputation is due to the fact that it is the most eclectic square in the city where all kinds of people gather, such as students, kids, families and elderly. From a spatial planning point of view, the square is next to the Galerius palace and near the hippodrome, where the Thessaloniki Massacre took place during the reign of Theodosius I. Of the two monuments of the massacre, only a few parts have survived, since the building activity of the 1950s and 60s destroyed large parts of this ancient heritage.
