Serres Controlled Hunting Area is one of the five C.H.A.s in Greece (Ossa, Serres, Parnassida – Amfissa, Dorida – Lidoriki and Koziaka – Trikala) and operates in accordance with the provisions of the Forestry Code (L. 87/69), amending law 177 of 1975 and Presidential Decree 453 of 1977. Also, there are additions to the Forest and Forest Lands Law recently passed in the Greek Parliament. These are selected areas where a good amount of animals must be observed in a natural state. Their hunting is controlled, since the hunter pays both for the entering the area and a fee according to the number of animals shot. Hunting is carried out within strict rules and restrictions that derive either from unwritten moral rules or from scientific knowledge, and are imposed by a comprehensive legal framework and ensure the sustainable and continuous exploitation of the resource.
In the area of the Kerkini wetland, hunting is prohibited all year round in order to serve the needs of protecting wildlife and biological diversity. The dog training areas start from Neo Petritsi, follow the fire protection road to the Holy Hermitage of Timios Prodromos of Aktritochori, continue to the Derveniotiko stream and reach the Serres – Kilkis national road.
